Navy notebook: Houston QB wrecks Mids' defensive plans

HOUSTON – Interim defensive coordinator Dale Pehrson has done an outstanding job of drawing up game plans to contain the many high-powered, up-tempo passing teams that Navy faces in the American Athletic Conference.

On Saturday at TDECU Stadium, Pehrson and the Midshipmen ran into the game plan wrecker.

Houston quarterback Greg Ward Jr. left the Navy defensive strategy in shambles, accounting for 391 total yards and four touchdowns to spark his team to a 52-31 win. Ward sat out last Saturday's loss to Connecticut with a sprained ankle and was listed as questionable leading up to Saturday's battle for the West Division crown of the American Athletic Conference.
