Navy men’s soccer opener canceled after Syracuse has positive coronavirus test

Navy athletics announced Wednesday morning its men’s soccer season opener has been canceled due to coronavirus.

Navy men’s soccer was scheduled to host Syracuse on Friday night but that match is now off due to a positive COVID-19 test within the Atlantic Coast Conference program. Resulting contact tracing made Syracuse unable to field a team.

Instead, Navy will travel to Charlottesville to play an exhibition game Friday night (7 p.m.) at Virginia. The Cavaliers come into the 2020 season as the Division I runner-up after falling to Georgetown on penalty kicks in the national championship game.
