Navy lands impressive basketball recruit

Navy men's basketball picked up arguably the biggest recruit in the five-year tenure of coach Ed DeChellis when the son of one of the program's all-time greats gave a verbal commitment.

James Butler, a 6-foot-8 power forward at Lake Braddock High in northern Virginia, chose Navy over UMBC and Wofford among others. He is the son of Vernon Butler, one of five Navy players whose jersey is retired.

James Butler, who is described as a rugged rebounder, much like his father, was an honorable mention All-Metro selection by the Washington Post after averaging nearly 24 points per game as a junior.
