Navy football transfer Chelen Garnes commits to Wake Forest

Garnes, who reentered the transfer portal on May 10, announced on Twitter he has committed to Wake Forest. The 5-foot-11, 200-pound safety posted the tweet late Sunday night, including his photo and the WF logo along with the word “committed” and phrase “set the standard.”

Under current NCAA transfer rules, Garnes cannot play for Wake during the 2020 season unless he can obtain a waiver. There are rumblings the NCAA might eliminate the mandatory sit-out rule, allowing transfers to gain immediate eligibility at their new schools.

Wake Forest, under the direction of seventh-year head coach Dave Clawson, is a resurgent program in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
