Navy football opens preseason practice

Head coach Ken Niumatalolo was patrolling two fields – hands on hips, whistle in mouth and eagle eyes watching everything. Assistant coaches were barking instructions and overseeing various drills.

During a skeleton passing drill, quarterback Malcolm Perry threw a dart to slotback Tyreek King-El, who had gotten open on a wheel route. King-El raced down the sideline and into the end zone for a touchdown, prompting the offensive players to hoot and holler and the defensive players to get an earful from a couple angry position coaches.

Navy football began preseason practice on Friday with a two-hour session in stifling heat and humidity with a couple rain showers interspersed.
