More and more college football coaches around the country are beginning to ease up on how much physical contact occurs during practice.
Player safety has become a major issue in the sport and the NCAA has issued guidelines on how often teams should engage in padded practices with hitting. For preseason practice, the NCAA recommends a maximum of four live practices per week and 12 in total.
Navy coach Ken Niumatalolo has been ahead of the curve on this issue and several years ago began scaling back how much his players do battle in full pads.
