Navy baseball is the preseason pick to capture the Patriot League championship, according to a poll of the conference’s six coaches.
Navy coach Paul Kostacopoulos is not sure what that is based off since not a single Patriot League game was played during the 2020 campaign, which was cut short in mid-March because of the coronavirus pandemic.
“I’ve never put much stock in preseason polls. More than ever, this year’s poll is probably is a crapshoot because no one played last season. There are no metrics to go off,” Kostacopoulos said.
Perhaps the rival Patriot League coaches based their votes off the fact Navy played impressively during the nonconference portion of the schedule in compiling a 14-1 record last year.
