Having closed its regular season with a 2-0 loss to Boston University, Navy's women's soccer team missed out on the opportunity to open the Patriot League tournament at home.
Instead, the Mids fell to fifth in the league standings, meaning they will start the tournament playing at fourth-place Colgate tonight in a quarterfinal matchup.
In the other quarterfinal game, sixth-seeded Lafayette plays third-seeded Lehigh. Bucknell and Boston University have first-round byes. Semifinal games are Saturday at No. 1 seed Bucknell.
"We would have loved to have had a home game, but we didn't play well enough to win and have that opportunity," said Carin Gabarra, who is in her 24th year as Navy head coach and entered this year having coached the Mids to 21 straight winning seasons.
