Emmett Davis was in the best shape he'd been since his college days.
An assistant basketball coach at the Naval Academy, the 55-year-old Arnold resident understood the importance of diet, exercise and good health. To gear up for the Annapolis 10 Mile Run on Aug. 30, he'd been training for over a year.
Six feet tall, Davis weighed 185 pounds. His body mass index was on the fence between normal and overweight.
"I had no known cholesterol issues. No family history of genetic-related heart problems," he said.
Yet, crossing the Naval Academy Bridge for the second time during the race, at the eight-mile mark, on the crest of the bridge, he collapsed.
