Senior guard Stacy Beckton Jr. scored 30 points before fouling out to lead American, which was playing its season opener. The Eagles had two weekends of conference doubleheaders canceled due to coronavirus issues within the program.
Davis put the Midshipmen ahead for good by making two free throws at the 3:16 mark of the five-minute extra session. Carter made a layup and a jumper as Navy increased the lead to five with 2:31 remaining.
