Tago Smith emerged from the 2014 season as the clear-cut backup quarterback for the Navy football team. Smith started two games in place of an injured Keenan Reynolds and led the Midshipmen to victory in both.
Smith was particularly impressive while engineering a 35-21 road victory over Texas State, rushing for 85 yards and two touchdowns while completing 5 of 7 passes for another 117 yards and two scores.
It seemed a mere formality that Smith would become the starting quarterback in 2016 after Reynolds graduated.
As ESPN GameDay personality Lee Corso likes to say: Not so fast my friend.
