The UNLV quarterback competition has been going on since the spring when the Rebels brought in junior college transfer Johnny Stanton and junior Kurt Palandech; the latter which saw playing time as a sophomore.
During spring, head coach Tony Sanchez said, "Stanton's a little bit ahead. That's why we gave him the start in the (spring) game, just for his ability to be a natural thrower."
Stanton also is a former four-star recruit who initially signed with Nebraska but then transferred to the JUCO ranks where was an All-American last year. With those credentials a lot of people felt he would be the starter.
