Despite a very good debut from Wolf Pack guard Marcus Marshall (25 points, four assists) it was not enough as Nevada dropped their season opener on the road to the 17th ranked Saint Mary's Gaels 81-63.
The Gaels offense was on fire tonight as they shot 60 percent from the field (compared to just 47 percent from Nevada) and 39 percent from the three-point line. Saint Mary's never trailed in the game and attacked Nevada's defense with excellent ball movement and precise passing.
Saint Mary's outscored Nevada by a score of 56-30 in the paint and a big reason for that paint dominance by the Gaels was the play of junior center Jock Landale.
