SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Now that Jim Tomsula has officially been fired by the 49ers, rumors have already begun circulating about his successor.
The NFL Network, ESPN and SB Nation have reported the 49ers are interested in Saints head coach Sean Payton.
On the surface, Payton, 52, checks a lot of boxes. He won a Super Bowl with the Saints 2009. He's one of the league's most respected offensive minds after resurrecting Drew Brees' career after a shoulder injury led him to New Orleans after leaving the Chargers.
