Backup started final game of 2015, his first NFL action since 2013.
In a news day dominated by the Indianapolis Colts’ former franchise quarterback Peyton Manning retiring in Denver, they released backup passer Josh Freeman.
After the recent decision to not re-sign 40-year-old backup Matt Hasselbeck and the release of Ryan Lindley, the perception was that Freeman would be Andrew Luck’s backup next season.
But the Colts evidently decided otherwise Monday, which means the only other quarterback on the roster other than Luck is 23-year-old Stephen Morris, who hasn’t taken a snap in a game in two seasons.
