A high ankle sprain has sidelined Garrett Celek for the season for the second straight year.
SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Tight end Garrett Celek, one of the 49ers' most reliable players on their last-ranked offense, is done for the season with a high ankle sprain.
San Francisco placed Celek on season-ending injured reserve Tuesday, bringing back linebacker Shayne Skov in his place, who was released Saturday to make room for center Daniel Kilgore on the active roster in time for the game Sunday against the Chicago Bears.
Celek suffered the injury three weeks ago against the Arizona Cardinals, when tacklers rolled into his ankle on a running play in the first half.
