New Mexico won a wild game against Air Force which was played at the Cotton Bowl — more on that later — 45-40.
This game featured the top two rushing attacks in the nation and they did not disappoint. The Falcons and Lobos combined for 974 yards and eight scoring drives of 70-plus yards.
The Lobos once again used that patented running attack to in the win and were led by the return of starting tailback Teriyon Gipson who rushed for 140 and a touchdown but did so one just nine carries. Tyrone Owens also rushed past the century mark with 126 yards and a score as well.
