Offenses across the Mountain West knew Malik Smith was a ball hawk in the middle of Rocky Long’s 3-3-5 defense. Quarterbacks knew throwing Damontae Kazee’s way was a tough call, but kept in mind Smith was just equally as tough a defender. Smith’s success as an Aztec has help develop the growth of the defensive backfield during the course of his career.
