Montreal Canadiens forward Phillip Danault will test free agency, according to his agent Don Meehan.
The news was first reported by La Presse’s Richard Labbé and since confirmed by TSN and The Athletic’s Pierre Lebrun.
Free agency opens at noon on Wednesday. This isn’t a surprise as the Canadiens leaving the centre unprotected meant that the two sides were not close to a new deal. Canadiens general manager says he wants Danault back, but seems locked in to a certain value. Danault, for his part, wants to stay in Montreal, but wants to see what the market will offer.
