When the Montreal Canadiens initially acquired Max Domi, he was in need of a new contract after burning through the duration of his entry-level contract. Domi did have an impressive 18-goal and 52-point rookie season but followed that up with back-to-back seasons of only putting up 9.
That said, Marc Bergevin went to his go-to method of bridge contracts signing Domi for two years at $3.15 million per. He’s displayed the ability and the innate instinct to be a performer from an early age given what he managed to accomplish in junior with the London Knights.
