Montreal Canadiens trade Hayden Hawkey to the Edmonton Oilers

Trading picks weren’t enough for the Montreal Canadiens as they chose to move a body from their prospect pool. The team has acquired a 2019 fifth-round pick in exchange for Hayden Hawkey.

Montreal originally selected the goaltender in the sixth round of the 2014 NHL Draft. Since then, Hawkey has played three seasons for Providence College as their number one guy. He finished his junior year playing 40 games and posting a .919 save percentage.

The Habs had until next August to sign Hawkey to an entry-level deal. However, it looks like Marc Bergevin chose to be more proactive in moving him to Edmonton.
