The Montreal Canadiens added some help on left defense when they signed veteran Ben Chiarot to a three-year contract. Chiarot’s cap hit will be $3.5 million for the duration of his deal as he slots in on the left side of the blue line.
Chiarot has played his entire NHL career with the Winnipeg Jets, but he had to scratch and claw to carve out a role for himself. The 28 year old was taken in the 4th round of the 2009 NHL Draft by the Atlanta Thrashers before they packed up and fled for colder climes in Manitoba.
