The Montreal Canadiens affiliation with the St. John’s IceCaps could be coming to an end sooner than most expected. It’s no secret the Canadiens did not view St. John’s as a long-term answer for their AHL affiliation. After all, their affiliation agreement was for only 2 years.
The Canadiens became affiliated with the IceCaps in 2014 as part of a deal with the Winnipeg Jets. The Jets wished to relocate their affiliate closer to Manitoba but agreed to find St. John’s a new affiliation. At the time, the Canadiens had some issues with their affiliation in Hamilton and agreed to move to St.
