WSOF heavyweight Caio Alencar explains how Chael Sonnen convinced him against retirement

Caio Alencar will make his World Series of Fighting debut in New York on Dec. 31, facing UFC veteran Jared Rosholt, and he’s only getting this opportunity thanks to Chael Sonnen.

The 38-year-old Brazilian heavyweight was close to announcing his retirement from the sport this year. More than a year after winning the Shooto Brazil heavyweight championship, the opportunities wouldn't come. “Caiao" took another fight in his native country, winning via first-round submission, and decided to move to the United States for one last shot.

"I was a manager in the past,” Alencar told MMA Fighting. "I started Bitetti Combat with Amaury (Bitetti), I did the first three editions of the show with him, so I know what an athlete needs.
