For a 41-year-old grizzled veteran, Demian Maia certainly looked like a young man in his prime Saturday in the main event of UFC Fight Night 162 in Singapore.
Maia (28-9) proved once again that he is virtually unparalleled in the grappling department in MMA, as he submitted polarizing wrestler Ben Askren in the third round. Maia landed several stinging punches to the head and body of “Funky” Askren throughout their welterweight main event encounter, but, as expected, the Brazilian finished things in the bets way he knows — via jiu-jitsu.
Askren was tagged repeatedly on the feet, but the American did score multiple takedowns.
