UFC Vancouver proved to be a splendid night of upsets from top to bottom. In the main event, middleweight luminary Brendan Allen defied the massive odds put upon him and broke former two-division champion Reinier de Ridder.
Utilizing a grappling heavy approach, “All In” smothered the Dutchman with his Jiu-Jitsu, peppering him with ground-and-pound en route to de Ridder’s corner having to throw in the towel before the fifth round started.
Before that, hometown hero Mike Malott pulled off a unanimous decision triumph over the much more experienced Kevin Holland. Despite an accidental low blow that appeared to debilitate the American, Malott still managed to weather the storm in round one to take the close bout on the scorecards.
