Roy Nelson suspended nine months for kicking referee John McCarthy

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) heavyweight power-puncher Roy Nelson has been fined and suspended by Brazil’s Superior Justice Court of Sport, working in conjunction with Comissao Atletica Brasileira de MMA, for kicking referee John McCarthy.

Nelson (22-13) stopped Brazilian buddy Roy Nelson at the UFC Fight Night 95 event earlier this year, but was frustrated with what he perceived to be a late stoppage. In response, he punted “Big John” as the longtime man in back tended to the fallen “Bigfoot.”

Now it’s time to pay the piper, according to MMA Fighting:

The maximum penalty, according to the STJDMMA, would be a 25-month suspension and $40,000 fine.
