Onetime Bellator MMA featherweight Shahbulat Shamhalaev was hospitalized on Wednesday after reportedly being shot multiple times in Makhachkala, Russia.
According to a report from ndelo.ru, Shamhalaev was in intensive care and underwent surgery to have a kidney removed after being shot “several times” with a firearm at a restaurant in the area. The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Dagestan press service confirmed the incident occurred but information regarding the assailants and other potential victims was not available.
In surveillance footage posted on ndelo.ru, several attackers appear to enter the restaurant and fire off multiple gunshots before leaving the scene.
