Abu Sayyaf made headlines earlier this week, shouldering the blame for the kidnapping and beheading of a Canadian hostage in Southern Sulu province.
Aquino stated that the group posed as Islamic freedom fighters, but "have behaved as criminals focused on enriching themselves by taking hostages for ransom.
