Matt Wiman announces his retirement following final fight in the UFC

Matt Wiman is ready to hang up his gloves for good.

The 37-year-old veteran lightweight suffered a devastating knockout courtesy of Jordan Leavitt this past weekend at UFC Vegas 16, which counted as his third consecutive loss in a row.

Afterward, UFC officials told MMA Fighting that Wiman had been released from the promotion, though he now says his contract was completed, and he plans to retire from the sport.

“Hey guys to be clear, I wasn’t cut, I wasn’t released,” Wiman explained in a text message sent to MMA Fighting’s Steven Marrocco.
