Marcirley Alves Won PFL Tournament with Torn Ligaments in Both Knees

In a span of four months, Marcirley Alves went from a virtual unknown to a Professional Fighters League world champion with a $500,000 prize.

It all began when his opponent in the PFL's alternate fight missed weight, and Leandro Higo's opponent, Johnny Campbell, suffered an injury and was removed from the card a few days from the event.

"It was two unfortunate events that led me straight to the tournament. I was in the right place at the right time and seized the opportunity. I didn't have a strategy for fighting Higo, but I was very trained,” Alves told Sherdog.
