Maybe it's because Rousey's mother AnnMaria De Mars said Tarverdyan is "extremely disrespectful" to woman, or the fact that he reportedly claimed to have zero income in a Chapter 7 Bankruptcy statement he filed on July while training one of the highest-paid athletes in MMA. Or maybe, it's because Rousey's upset loss to Holly Holm back at UFC 193 caused many people to question Tarverdyan's training.
But one man that knows a thing or two about fighting, has a different opinion than most do on Tarverdyan's training.
"The time that I was around him and some of the things I saw him show as a coach, I thought were pretty good," said the former UFC heavyweight champion and King of Pancrase Josh Barnett on Monday's edition of The MMA Hour.
