Gilbert Burns tests positive for COVID-19, out of UFC 251 main event vs. Kamaru Usman

On a day filled with cancellations of fights slated for the UFC’s “Fight Island” series in Abu Dhabi, the biggest one yet has just occurred.

MMA Junkie’s John Morgan broke the news on late Friday night that welterweight title challenger Gilbert Burns, along with his brother Herbert Burns and coach Greg Jones, tested positive for the coronavirus. This obviously means that his title bout against champion Kamaru Usman is no longer headlining UFC 251 on July 11th.

While the UFC had only three total cancellations due to positive COVID-19 results in May and June, Friday has produced four by itself.
