Giacomo Lemos releases statement on drug test failure that canceled UFC 240 fight

Undefeated heavyweight Giacomo Lemos was removed from UFC 240 days before his fight with fellow newcomer Tanner Boser after his USADA test came back positive for a banned substance.

A day after being informed of the failure, Lemos (6-0) released a statement to MMA Fighting maintaining his innocence and saying he will get his supplements tested to find out how he popped for drostanolone, an anabolic steroid.

Read Lemos’ statement below.

“I still don’t really know what happened, but we suspect that an anti-inflammatory injection I took on my last fight in Seoul [on April 8], before I had a contract with the UFC, was contaminated with this substance, a substance that stays longer in your body.
