Fight Archives: The time Tyron Woodley’s hammer hands folded a BJJ legend

Remember Andre Galvao the MMA fighter? He had good victories, but ultimately wasn’t as successful as he was as a decorated Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu competitor. You’ve got to give the man some respect for at least trying though, which is something many of his contemporaries won’t do.

Galvao’s last mixed martial arts fight happened under the now-defunct Strikeforce banner on October 9th, 2010. Then 28 years old with multiple jiu-jitsu world championships under his belt, he was tasked to face an undefeated NCAA Division I wrestler named Tyron Woodley.

Looking at the matchup on paper, Galvao had a solid case for himself.
