Chris Weidman lost his UFC middleweight title because of a fourth-round onslaught of punches and elbows from Luke Rockhold, although his night at UFC 194 nearly ended earlier than that.
Rockhold spent over a minute blasting away with hard strikes from mount in the final stages of the bout's third round, as referee Herb Dean looked on, before a wearied and bloodied Weidman could finally be saved by the bell.
The grisly sequence drew criticism from many who believed Dean allowed Weidman to take too much unnecessary punishment -- a sentiment which was supported just minutes later when Rockhold finished Weidman with ease in the ensuing round.
