MMA Fighting confirmed with officials that the veteran heavyweight has signed a new, multi-year contract to stay with the promotion that he has called home since 2013. The news was first reported by MMA Junkie.
In 15 appearances for Bellator, Kongo has compiled a 12-2 record with one no-contest. That no-contest occurred in his most recent bout against heavyweight champion Ryan Bader this past September. Kongo was ruled unable to continue after complaining about an accidental eye poke in the first round.
The 44-year-old Frenchman won eight straight fights to earn his shot at Bader, including a unanimous decision win over Vitaly Minakov to avenge a previous title fight loss, and first-round knockouts of Timothy Johnson and Javy Ayala.
