Neil Magny’s victory over Jake Matthews at UFC Perth on Sept. 27 will stand.
The welterweight bout featured some controversy when referee Jim Perdios appeared to wave off the fight in the first round after Matthews had Magny ensnared in a mounted guillotine choke. However, Perdios ultimately allowed the contest to continue after Magny protested the stoppage, which occurred in the waning seconds of the opening frame.
Eventually, Magny rallied and went on to submit Matthews with a brabo choke at the 3:08 mark of Round 3. Matthews later admitted that it was difficult to “switch back on” after thinking victory was in hand, and his team decided to appeal the defeat.
