Alycia Baumgardner successfully retained her undisputed super featherweight championship tonight with a hard-fought victory over Jennifer Miranda, further solidifying her position as one of the top pound-for-pound fighters in women’s boxing.
Judges saw the fight 97-93, 98-92, and 98-92 for Baumgardner, the latter two seeming especially wide. Most observers had the fight closer than that. While Baumgardner (16-1, 7 KOs) got the win on paper, many observers felt the fight was much closer than the scorecards indicated. Miranda (12-1, 1 KO) gave a strong performance and showed she belonged on the big stage, frequently outworking Baumgardner in spurts and never backing down.
