After ‘Toughest Year of My Life,’ Michael Chiesa Ready to Climb the Ladder at Welterweight

Two-and-a-half years is a long time for a fighter to go without having a win, but that’s about how long it’s been for Michael Chiesa.

The last time “Maverick” had his hand raised inside the UFC’s Octagon was when he submitted Beneil Dariush at UFC on Fox 19 on April 16, 2016. Since that triumph, it’s been nothing but setbacks and losses. Fortunes changed in his welterweight debut, as Chiesa nabbed a terrific win over Carlos Condit on Saturday at UFC 232.

“This was my first win since April 2016,” Chiesa said at the post-fight press conference on Saturday night.
