Get To Know Tim Tszyu

If you follow the boxing world, then you have probably heard about Tim Tszyu, Australia’s new gem who is becoming the next sensation in the sport. Carrying the legacy torch of his dad, Tim is currently the No.1 pound-for-pound light-middleweight fighter.

Tim was born and raised in Sydney despite his Russian, Korean, and Mongolian backgrounds.

Following in the footsteps of his father, Kostya Tszyu, In 2019, he won the championship title at only 25 years of age. After all, the apple doesn't fall that far from the tree.

Timofei Konstantinovich Tszyu is now 28 years old and climbing the ladder of success with every fight. Tim is a chip off the old block with 21 wins and 15 knockouts. The young lad is striving to conquer the 154-pound class division in the future.

Tim terrorized and swept the entire welterweight division with his dad as a coach. Like Kobe Bryant, who had his father as a mentor and the toughest opponent, Tim had to fill in large shoes.

Tim’s dad, the legendary Kostya Tszyu, who was introduced into the Hall of Fame, was training with him and making him do crazy drills from morning till dawn. At age 15, Tim beat his dad in a sparring match and received the highest compliment, making him smile from ear to ear.

Kostya:” I accept that you are quicker than me!”

In the Tszyu household, there were no strict rules to follow at the beginning. At a young age, Tim only knew that his dad was a boxer, and he did not truly recognize how big of a legacy he had.

Kostya would often joke about it while cooking and yell, “I’m the king of the world,” but all Tim did was laugh.

At 6 years old, Tim Tszyu realised what becoming a boxing champion meant, which he also liked to punch people for a living. At this period, Kostya did not pressure his son into becoming a boxer, and he allowed Tim to play any sport he wanted.

Tim tried playing soccer and was pretty good at it but decided to transition to boxing instead.

Tim Tszyu: “ I liked soccer, I still like it, and I am pretty damn good at it. But, my passion is boxing, and after I spent some time in Moscow, I realised that becoming a professional boxer is my dream job. I was never really exposed to my father’s celebrity status.

All I was were cuts and bruises at home, and I still wanted to box. My dad used to wake me up to go on runs with him early in the morning, and I never once complained. The discipline was there, and where better to imply it if not in the boxing ring”.

Furthermore, Kostya Tszyu was a part of the Soviet Union as a military and national boxing team member, while Tim was boxing in Australia.

Many fighters born with a lot of money and a privileged life usually like to do something less harmful or more creative. In other words, be spoiled brats, said Tim Tszyu in an interview early on in his career.

Since last year, the name Tszyu has become more popular because Tim made the comeback of the century while fighting Terrell Gausha.

Moreover, the 5 a.m. road work, the 8-hour training sessions, and the discipline overall had led this young bloke to the top of the mountain and is now going to fight Jermell Charlo for the championship title.

Despite having a crazy workout routine, what is even crazier is that Tim likes to have his last opponent Terrell Gausha as his sparring partner. Tszyu and Guasha share a lot of respect for each other, and there was no trash talk at their press conference.

Nobody would be surprised if these lads team up for a sparring session. It would be like when Apollo trained Rocky after realising his potential.
