After winning the Shield last weekend, the North Carolina Courage traveled to the Washington Spirit looking to build towards the playoffs. Lynn Williams opened the scoring just before half-time after some excellent Aubrey Bledsoe saves, before the Spirit mounted their comeback.
Mallory Pugh scored in the 75th minute after her shot was initially deflected by Courage defender Debinha, before Rose Lavelle found the net in the 84th minute to earn a 2-1 win. The Spirit’s win was their first win over the North Carolina Courage and ended a six-match winning streak for the 2019 NWSL Shield Winners.
