This past year a handful of American soccer stars ventured out of the National Women’s Soccer League to play in Europe. Alex Morgan and Carli Lloyd were two such players that landed contracts from European clubs, and now they will face each other in the most prestigious women’s club tournament in the world.
Morgan plays for Olympique Lyonnais in the Feminine Division 1, which is the French top flight for women’s soccer. Lyon is one of the most decorated women’s clubs in Europe and is the defending Champions League title holders.
More recently, Morgan has been seeing an increase in playing time after an illness kept her out of the lineup.
