If the loss in the week to Jamaica was a poor result for the United States Men’s National Team, then Sunday’s defeat to Venezuela was utterly humiliating. On Sunday, Gregg Berhalter’s side had the opportunity to redeem themselves in another tuneup match for the CONCACAF Gold Cup. They did not come close.
What transpired was even worse than the Jamaica outing. Three goals came in the first half for Venezuela and they never looked back en route to a 3-0 win. Zack Steffen and the USMNT defense made mistakes on all three goals, and to make matter worse, the attack failed to find the back of the net for the second time in a week.
