The US Open Cup is the oldest soccer competition in America, and the 104th edition is set to kick-off in just a few weeks. The 2017 tournament is set to be the biggest yet, with 99 teams across five leagues and local club qualifiers set to take part.
Yet to reach the level of mainstream sports, or even within the soccer community, the Cup is often undervalued and underrepresented. Between the rich history of Cup tournaments, like the FA Cup in England, and America’s love of bracket competitions, this event has great potential, but lacks the support it needs.
