On Wednesday night, the New York Red Bulls defeated the Rochester Rhinos in Lamar Hunt U.S Open Cup action.
Jesse Marsch included many veterans in his lineup which is surprising for the New York Red Bulls. Throughout history, the Red Bulls have been known to not put their best players out during U.S Open Cup play. This changed Wednesday when Marsch included Kljestan, Wright-Phillips, and McCarty.
This proved to be successful because in the 20th minute, Gonzalo Veron was brought down in the box and the referee awarded New York a penalty kick. Kljestan stepped up and delivered again to give the Red Bulls the lead.
