After a big offseason in which Toronto FC upgraded at defense, they came into this season with lots of high expectations. Fresh off their first playoff appearance in franchise history, the moves they made successfully filled the holes in their lineup, and with an improved roster, many expected TFC to be in the running for the MLS Cup.
It started off great, as they won four games on their opening eight-game road trip, while their defense proved to be impenetrable – they broke their record for most clean sheets in a season after just their 14th game. But injuries to key contributors have slowed Toronto FC’s progress and with two wins in their last 10 matches, they no longer pose the same threat that they once did.
