In a rematch of the week one bout that saw NYCFC claim three points on the road against the Chicago Fire, perhaps the most intriguing storyline to come out of the match was Patrick Vieira’s decision to leave youngsters Khiry Shelton and Mikey Lopez off of his 18-man roster. It was only found out after the game that Vieira felt as though he needed to make a statement about how his players handle themselves off the pitch.
“Khiry and Mikey Lopez were supposed to be part of the team,” Vieira said in his postgame report, “but I was not really pleased about the message on the internet about the video.
