Sporting Kansas City travelled a long way north for the first leg of the Western Conference Championships. The Portland Timbers were the hosts, and Gio Savarese’s side were intent on dictating the match. Sporting KC seemed quite happy with that.
The first leg ended in a 0-0 draw, a tantalising balance for Thursday night’s second leg. It was a game that Portland had the better off, nearly scoring on several occasions. But, in the end, it is KC that will take an even scoreline back to Children’s Mercy Park.
