Portland Timbers: The Arrival of Blanco and Olum

The news in Portland for the past month was the hopeful singing of a potential DP. As of a couple days ago, the Timbers finally got their man in Sebastian Blanco. The Timbers traded $75,000 in general allocation money to the Sounders in exchange for his Right of First Refusal.

The 28-year old Argentine comes to the Rose City from Argentine club, San Lorenzo. The midfielder has also spent time with Lanus, Metalist Kharkiv, and West Bromwich Albion. Being capped twice by Argentina, Blanco has made 55 appearances for San Lorenzo, scoring 9 goals.

The Timbers hope Blanco will fill shoes Lucas Melano left un-touched on the wing, while forming a cohesive and structured partnership with Nagbe, Valeri, and Adi.
